Today, we’ll be getting in the water at the Gambril Access and getting out at the McCausland Access about 8 miles downriver! We mainly utilize the Clinton and Scott County brochure, but the DNR has brochures available for many of the water trails across the state, so check them out!
What to Expect
Gambril Access has a moderately sized parking area and features a concrete boat ramp that provides easy access to the water. A few cabins dot the landscape around the access, but a majority of this section sits near farmland and woodland, giving a nice ‘away from it all’ feeling.
Many sandbars and a few small ‘islands’ can be found along this stretch of the river. Make sure you stop at one or two and see if you can locate some of the wildlife that live along the river!
Final Thoughts
This stretch of the river is perfect for beginners and at around 7 miles, will give you plenty of time out on the water! Out of the main channel, the water never feels too deep and I was able to drag our kayaks back upstream when we had to leave early on one trip!
